The importance of leadership in team management

Globalization and internationalization have allowed walls to be broken down and have facilitated connectivity between corners of the world, but they have also led to an overflow of supply.  And in the face of so much supply, talent management has become the centre of the equation if we want to run our company in a sustainable and exponential way, which exposes the need to transform organizations. But what does it mean to transform an organization? Transforming is, as Sergi tells us in the video, "knowing how to push everyone towards common values".

Peter Drucker already stressed the importance of having values and principles that underpin the organization. And, as he said, "business culture eats strategy for breakfast"; because a good strategy without the existence of common values will have life, yes, but it will be short-lived, and with a future without a future. This is where the role of the leader comes into play. Leadership has a direct impact on the culture of the organization, as the leader is responsible for transmitting and imbuing the team with the company's values and principles, for making the group feel part of the organization and for encouraging the effect of engagement, i.e. the direct involvement of the employee in what he or she does.

The business culture is based on strategy. And the leader has the mission of transmitting and empowering everyone towards common values.

And what should a good leader be like? Sergi Garcia puts it perfectly in two main points:

1) He must give vision and guide the team and

2) He must develop and make this team grow.

Thus, a leader must reinforce personal power, facilitate proactivity and, in short, guide towards personal and professional development. Being a good leader, he says, does not depend on territory, but on the leader guiding the group with values of respect and learning.

Until a few years ago, being a good leader may have meant having a lot of knowledge about a sector and being the "best" in it, but today it is necessary to explore new forms of leadership. Ways that allow us to respond to the realities of work today: cultural diversity, complexity, technology and telework and innovation, among others. Authentic, remote, cross-cultural and supportive leadership is needed. For us, in line with what Sergi said throughout the interview, being a leader means having the ability to learn from your team, to be able to create a climate of trust that allows the insertion of diversity of thoughts and opportunities, and thus give rise to the emergence of creativity and innovation that allow the group to shine and become a real team. We could conclude that being a good leader means surrounding oneself with the best professionals and giving them autonomy and space so that they feel part of the project.

And for you, what does it mean to be a leader?
